Center of Refuge will host its third annual S.O.S. (Saving Our Sons) event on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Carver Gym, 410 Mercer Ave. and on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the church at 2405 Lily Pond Road. “The Celebration of Life Service for Jimmy Teemer Jr.” will be held to stand up against violence among our nation’s youth. Honored guests will be on hand from various churches, the Dougherty County school and local judicial systems, civic organizations, and local businesses. This event highlights the S.O.S. and H.O.T.S. projects, which focus on the survival of our young people. A special tribute will be rendered by C.O.R.’s youth through song and dance. First United Methodist Church of Albany will host “The Quest For Authentic Manhood” with Robert Lewis on Tuesday mornings following Easter. This is a 24-session study facilitated by senior minister Dr. Don Adams focused on the primary issues that shape a man’s life; explores in-depth the biblical concept of manhood; and provides practical building blocks for men to use to construct themselves a nobler, more satisfying manhood. Macedonia Baptist Brotherhood will sponsor its seventh annual Holy Smoke Christian Grilling Competition at the old Centerpoint School in Preston from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. On tap is fellowship, gospel singing an $6 barbecue plates.
