Hazel Wadsworth Hambric

The funeral service of Hazel Wadsworth Hambric, 92, of Albany, who died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010 at Dawson Manor, will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Pastor Tony Haefs will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Born in Mitchell County on May 1, 1917, Mrs. Hambric moved to Dougherty County at 10 years of age. During WWII, she was employed at Turner Field Air Force Base in Albany, where she worked in the supply depot. She retired from Hambric Welding Co. Inc. as office manager/bookkeeper. Mrs. Hambric was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Jackson Hambric Sr.; her parents, William and Addie Crawford Wadsworth; three sisters, Nadine W. Ford, Bernice W. Christenson and Inez W. Layfield; and a brother, Lester Wadsworth.

In February 2009, the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W presented Mrs. Hambric with a pin for 62 years of membership and for being the last-known charter member. She was also a charter member of National Association of Women in Construction and a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Crepe Myrtle Chapter 163.

Survivors include two sons, Leon Jackson (Jackie) Hambric Jr. and his wife, Betty Jane (B.J.) of Leesburg, and William Richard Hambric Sr. and his wife Elaine, of Leesburg; four grandchildren, Shelley Shiver and her husband, Will of Leesburg, Brad Hambric of Tifton, Amanda Hambric (Will McGuire) of Shellman, Ga., and William Richard (Rick) Hambric Jr. (Maribel Diaz) of Albany; one great-grandson, William Kemp Shiver of Leesburg; and two step-grandchildren, Kayla Coleman and Marshall Coleman of Leesburg.

The family will receive friends today (Wednesday) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. An online guestbook memorializing Mrs. Hambric is at www.mathewsfuneralhome.com.
