Dr. Juanita Cochran Wright-Douglas, 91, of Albany died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 at her residence. Funeral services were Monday at Bethel A.M.E. Church with Rev. Ernest Davis Jr. officiating. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
Dr. Juanita Cochran Wright-Douglas was born Aug. 3, 1918 in Dougherty County.. She completed undergraduate studies at Tennessee State University and did further studies at Kean College while eventually becoming the recipient of her doctorate degree from New York University.
Dr. Wright-Douglas was a member of the National Education Association, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Dougherty County Children and Youth, and Bethel AME. Church. She served on the boards of Albany Area Community Service Board, YMCA. Board, Albany Boys Group Home, Girls Inc., and Albany/Dougherty 2000 Partnership in Education.
Survivors: Husband, Arthur Douglas; a sister, Hazel (Johnny) Hariston; two sisters-in-law, Lovye W. Cockran and Priscilla B. Cochran; five step-children and a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
