Albany State Lady Rams to host volleyball tournament

Eleven volleyball teams will visit the Albany State University campus to compete in the 2009 SIAC Volleyball Crossover Tournament this week. The three-day tournament starts Thursday, Sept. 17 at ASU’s HPER Gymnasium. During the tournament, teams from the East Division will play teams in the West Division.

In addition to the Lady Rams, other East Division teams that will participate in the tournament include the Benedict College Lady Tigers, Claflin University Pantherettes, Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers, Fort Valley State University Lady Wildcats and Paine College Lady Lions.

West Division teams include the Kentucky State University Thorobrettes, Lane College Lady Dragons, LeMoyne-Owen College Lady Magicians, Miles College Lady Bears, Stillman College Lady Tigers and Tuskegee University Tigerettes.

Volleyball action begins Thursday at 10 a.m. with matches between Benedict and LeMoyne-Owen, Claflin and Lane, and Paine and Kentucky State. The Albany State Lady Rams will play at 12 p.m. against Lane and 6 p.m. against LeMoyne-Owen. On Friday, the Lady Rams will play Tuskegee at 10 a.m., Miles at 2 p.m. and Stillman at 6 p.m. The Lady Rams will play their final tournament match against Kentucky State on Saturday at 10 a.m.

After the final tournament match on Saturday, the Lady Rams will play Benedict in a regular conference game at 3 p.m.

The crossover tournament is free of charge and open to the public.
