Saturday’s football game against Kentucky State is not only the first home game of the season for the Albany State University Golden Rams, but the first Joseph Winthrop Holley Classic game, so named after the niversity’s founder.
Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 7 p.m. A series of events are planned for earlier that day.
Albany State will have its first Ram Ride for all motorcycle riders – open to all riders and clubs. The admission fee is $15 per bike. Proceeds from the ride will go to the summer youth programs at Albany State.The ride will start at 11 a.m. at Albany Harley Davidson and lead to Thomasville, ending at the HPER Gymnasium. First- and second-place trophies will be distributed, as well as free shirts and game admission. Bikers can register at Albany Harley Davidson as early as 9 a.m.

The National Alumni Association is sponsoring a football barbecue kickoff from 1 to 5 p.m. at the ASU National Alumni Association House, 3523 Sylvester Road.The event is to raise funds for ASU scholarship programs.

The Center for the African-American Male (CAAM) will host the Parade of Fifth Grade Colors Game. Fifth-graders from area elementary schools will spend the evening with CAAM mentors and attend the football game. The students will march into the stadium after the Marching Rams Show Band, and a representative from each school will be an honorary captain during the coin toss. Admission for the fifth-grade boys is free. Parents and chaperones will be admitted for $20 and $7 for all other students in grades K-12.
