If they were to merge Darton and ASU, I feel that the school with the largest student population should be the one that gets the biggest leeway. As such Darton should retain it’s name and ASU fade away.

    However, I feel they shouldn’t merge none-the-less.

Merging Darton College with Albany Tech would continue the trend of "dumming down" our educational system that this country has been on since the 1960's. Darton has been an major force in SW GA with their nursing program, along with other programs at the college. I have attended both Darton College & Albany Tech, they are two totally different institutions & they serve different purposes. How about raising the level of education at Darton & making it a 4 year school instead of associating it with a technical school. This area is in dire need of better educational standards not lower expectations.

Darton College is a great school that is an economic engine for Southwest Georgia. Ideas to combine it with the Technical College or Albany State University, a Historically Black College, would save little money but would cost a lot. Darton College is now 47% minority enrollment. It produces nurses, health care professionals, and a host of motivated transfer students. The best course for the state would be to allow a Bachelor of Nursing Degree at Darton College so that it could grow even more. There is a growing need for nurses and so more Georgians would have jobs and pay taxes. Combining growing Darton College with either of the other two institutions would demoralize its 5000 students and strike a devastating blow to the economy of Southwest Georgia. Darton College has been a leader in technology and offering courses online. It is a major contributor to Georgia OnMyLine. Please do what’s right and introduced legislation to make Darton College a four year institution with a degree in Nursing.
